FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
Dear
Parishioners,
We all
eagerly anticipate enjoying the hamloaf dinner served by the Ladies of St.
Andrew this Tuesday. Thanks to all
making this happen. It is probably one
of our biggest parish events. So many
of you throughout the years do much to keep this great tradition alive.
I will
participate in a one-day parish administrators - pastors retreat at the
Spiritual Life Center Sunday evening and Monday. In serving St. Michael’s in Chapman, I fit into this role. Accordingly, there will be communion
services Monday morning.
Priests and
parish administrators have a Fall Renewal Day Thursday in Russell. Fr. Richard Hogan will present the church
teaching on Natural Family Planning (NFP).
This complements the Theology of the Body our late Pope John Paul II
championed. This is a Pro-Life and thus
Pro-God choice. It is so fitting that
we learn more about this during October, the Respect Life and the Rosary month.
Next weekend I
will be away doing a wedding in McCracken, Kansas. In case you ask where it is, the answer is that it is in Rush
County about 40 miles southwest of Hays.
Fr. John Wolesky of neighboring Solomon will have a Saturday wedding
here. Bishop Emeritus George K.
Fitzsimons will have the weekend Masses here and in Chapman.
In preparing for
the NET retreat for young people (grades 7-12), we need and appreciate offers
to help us house six young women and five young men. Contact us in the Parish Office if you can help. CRE Gloria Picking (Coordinator of Religious
Education) along with me are hosting the event. We are inviting the young people in neighboring parishes to join
us.
This National
Evangelization Team (NET) comes to St. Andrew on Wednesday, November 8th. Since we are using St. Andrew School for
the event and break-out sessions, we will not have regular CRE classes that
evening. The three hour event goes from
6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Ladies of St.
Andrew are assisting with the meals for the teams during the stay.
Throughout the
years, I have seen NET do a good job in reaching our young people. Their enthusiasm and commitment to the
Catholic faith helps evangelize our young people. This obviously is an integral part of our CYO- High School
CRE. Throughout our entire lives, we
need to continue our religious education.
Unfortunately,
many wrongly assume that upon being confirmed, they are through with religious
education for the rest of their lives.
And so they quit. In no other
area of their lives, would they ever dream of adopting such an attitude. It is our faithful living that determines
how we spend eternity. Basically, we
write our own ticket for eternity with our moral choices. Where do you want to
go? Heaven or Hell?
The Catholic Community
Annual Appeal (CCAA) letters have reached you by now. Thank you for your prayerful response of stewardship in this
regard. The Building Fund continues to
grow. It currently stands at $13,710.
The recent rains
were certainly welcome. Farmers are
especially happy about enough moisture for the wheat to have a good start. This need for rain helps us realize how
dependent we all are on God. Developing
trust in God is probably one of our more challenging spiritual tasks. The Diocesan Respect Life Commission is
happy to announce the two buses going to Washington, D.C. Jan. 20-24 are now
full. They will participate in the
March for Life.
Mary, Mother of Life, pray for us.
Father Henry
October - Respect Life Month
The Pro-Life Rosary will be prayed each Sunday during October beginning at 10:05 A.M., prior to the 10:30 Mass. Please join us in praying to Jesus through Mary to end abortion.
