Trenton, Missouri, March 12, 2004 -- Amateur Radio operators from throughout northern Missouri will start
gearing up this week for the upcoming severe weather season by joining state and local agencies for the
annual statewide severe weather exercise.
The exercise, will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, March 16th 2004, is a statewide event sponsored by the State
Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service. Area Operators will meet on a pre-arranged
frequency and will exchange information about current weather. Operators are urged to use emergency power
whenever possible.
Glen Briggs, the Local Amateur Radio Emergency Services Coordinator said. "Last Year we found out just how
valuable being prepared is, with a record number of tornadoes being reported across the United States
Amateur Radio Operators relayed Thousands of reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service."
Briggs went onto say. "Of these thousands of reports, many helped the National Weather Service better warn
the public."
